1.2083 (S136H) is a high-quality, corrosion-resistant plastic mold steel with excellent polishability and high hardness. It is primarily used in the production of molds that require high surface finish and resistance to corrosive environments, such as molds for medical and food industry products. S136H is supplied in a pre-hardened condition, typically around 280-330 HB (28-36 HRC), making it easy to machine and use directly without further heat treatment.

Key Characteristics:

  • Composition: High chromium content (around 13%), which provides excellent corrosion resistance, along with moderate levels of carbon and molybdenum.
  • Hardness: Pre-hardened to approximately 28-36 HRC, offering a good balance of strength and toughness.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Superior resistance to rust and corrosive environments, ideal for molds used in humid or chemically aggressive conditions.
  • Polishability: Exceptional polishability, allowing for high-gloss finishes suitable for optical and transparent plastic products.
  • Machinability: Good machinability in its pre-hardened state, facilitating efficient mold manufacturing.

Common Applications:

  • Injection molds for corrosive plastics (e.g., PVC)
  • Molds for medical, optical, and food industry products
  • Molds requiring high surface quality and gloss
  • Components exposed to corrosive environments

1.2083 (S136H) plastic mold steel is favored for its excellent corrosion resistance, high polishability, and suitability for high-finish molds, making it a preferred material in precision mold manufacturing where surface quality and durability are critical.
